Mourinho: Lampard’s Chelsea love story is over

Jose Mourinho insists Frank Lampard’s love story with Chelsea is over after he scored an equaliser for Manchester City against his former club on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League champions Manchester City struggled to breakthrough against Chelsea on Sunday at the Etihad stadium but it was Frank Lampard who came off the bench to rescue a point against his former employees.

After the match, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho refused to comment on his feelings about Lampard’s goal in the game but he did mention the former England international’s decision to join a ‘direct rival’.

“Frank Lampard is a Manchester City player,” the Portuguese coach told Sky Sports. “When he decided to go to a direct competitor then love stories are over.”

“I don’t believe in stories of passion and heart, maybe I am too pragmatic in football. He did his job as a professional.

“To speak about Frank is to speak about my past with Frank – the player he was for me and what he means in my career. I am never tired to speak about this, but from the moment he is a Man City player I don’t speak about other teams’ players.

“I am the Chelsea manager and I speak about my players, and my players did fantastically.”
