Sturridge set to return for Merseyside derby

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Daniel Sturridge could make his comeback against Everton later this month.

The England international was ruled out for up to three weeks after picking up a knock in training with the national side and he missed Liverpool’s defeat to Aston Villa and their victory over Ludogorets in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old will continue to miss this weekend’s tie with West Ham United but his boss – Brendan Rodgers is fully expectant that he will make a comeback against city rivals Everton later this month.

“Daniel is doing well and is out on the field doing some work,” the Ulsterman told the Liverpool Echo.

“He should hopefully be back training at some point next week and will have a chance for the derby.”

Sturridge scored 21 goals in his first full Premier League campaign with Liverpool and Rodgers is hoping he can develop a partnership with Mario Balotelli.
