Rojo granted work permit

Manchester United have announced that new signing Marcos Rojo has finally been granted a work permit and is available to play against QPR on 14 September.

The Manchester giants revealed on their Twitter account this afternoon: “The UK Border Agency has agreed to grant Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo a visa and he will therefore be available to face QPR on 14 September.”

The £16m Argentine had already previously missed three of the Manchester side’s games since signing for the club from Sporting Lisbon last month, due to the trouble he experienced obtaining the permit.

The BBC had reported that the delay in granting Rojo the visa was the result of an ongoing criminal investigation from an incident that occurred in his native Argentina back in 2010. It is understood that Rojo strongly denies any wrongdoing.

It is expected that Rojo will now automatically start United’s next fixture and is likely to replace Tyler Blackett in Louis van Gaal’s three-man defensive line-up, which has come under fire already this season.

United have only won two points from a possible nine so far this Premier League campaign, after an opening day defeat to Swansea followed by draws against Sunderland and Burnley.
