Balotelli lifts lid on Liverpool move

AC Milan’s fiery striker Mario Balotelli is set to make a sensational return to the Premier League as he lifts the lid on his imminent move to Liverpool.

Balotelli, who scored for Italy against England at this summer’s World Cup has all but confirmed his move to Anfield just weeks after Brendan Rodgers denied that Liverpool had any interest in signing the 24-year-old.

The former Manchester City forward, who left England in January 2013 to join AC Milan, told Sky Italia this afternoon: “Today is my last day at Milan, I am going to Liverpool.”

The controversial Italian is expected to complete a move to the value of £16m in the next few days, subject to his medical and agreeing personal terms, which may cause a stumbling block owing to his high salary demands.  According to the Daily Mail, Balotelli is believed to be holding out for around £125,000 a-week to join the Merseyside giants.

Rodgers has been looking for a top-level striker since Luis Suarez left to join Barcelona last month and has clearly had a change of heart about approaching Milan for Balotelli. Yet a few weeks ago things looked very different, Liverpool were poised to sign Loic Remy from QPR to partner Daniel Sturridge up-front, but called the deal off at the last minute due to his failed medical.

Since joining Milan, Balotelli has scored an impressive 30 goals in 54 appearances for the club, but his 18 strikes last campaign was not enough to finish the Serie A giants in the top five. Following their worst league campaign in 16 years, Milan limped over the finishing line in eighth position.
