Swansea City give Van Gaal’s Man United a bumpy start

Louis van Gaal’s reign at Manchester United started with a bump as his side lost to Swansea City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Gylfi Sigurdsson had the first real chance of the game when the visiting side were awarded a free kick but his curling effort failed to test Spanish keeper David de Gea who stood firm in the United goal.

Swansea continued to test Louis van Gaal’s side and they took the lead just under half an hour when Ki Sung-Yueng, returning from his loan spell with Sunderland, scored from the edge of the area, drilling his effort into the bottom corner.

The home side came out stronger following the half-time break and it was none other than captain Wayne Rooney who got his team back on level terms.

The English international got on the end of a cross and volleyed the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.

Rooney would then come close again as his close range free-kick came back of the post and Swansea took full advantage of the missed chance.

Sigurdsson it was who was found by Wayne Routledge and he fired his shot past the helpless De Gea.

Adnan Januzaj had a late chance for the home side but his effort was hit straight at team-mate Rooney and Gary Monk’s side held on for all three points.

Football Express News’ Man of the Match award for Manchester United versus Swansea City goes to Spanish defender Jordi Amat.
