Stoke up stakes for Norwich midfielder

Stoke City have made a brazen second bid for Norwich City midfielder Nathan Redmond, with a deal of £5m tabled and a 24-hour decision demanded.

The England U21 international was one of Norwich’s stand-out players in the Premier League last season, despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is hot in pursuit of Redmond’s signature, with the Potters already having had their first (undisclosed) bid turned down by the Canaries this summer.

Their improved offer of £5m has been made in the last 24 hours along with the condition they make a quick decision to allow the 20-year-old to be signed, sealed and delivered by the end of this week.

The Welsh manager is keen to add attacking flair to his side as he continues to change the club’s philosophy after replacing Tony Pulis in May last year.

Hughes is also desperate to sign another winger after letting Matthew Etherington go, having so far failed in attempts to bring Oussama Assaidi and Andriy Yarmolenko to the club.

According to the Daily Mail, Norwich value Redmond at £6m and are unlikely to budge on their estimation of the player they only signed last summer, for an initial £2m with add-ons.

Norwich are targeting an immediate return to England’s top flight and are financially stable having already sold Robert Snodgrass to Hull City for £8m. The Canaries are in the strong position of being able to turn down bids unless a side reaches their valuation and pays their asking price for a player.
