Brazilian defender Guilherme Siqueira rejected five clubs including Tottenham Hotspur to make a summer move to Atletico Madrid.

The former Granada man had been on loan with Portuguese side Benfica and played a big part in their domestic title success and runners up finish in the Europa League.

His consistent performances led to numerous big spending European clubs to show interest with Italian side Juventus, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur all credited.

Siqueira decided to join Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, despite being offered a ‘big’ contract deal from English side Spurs.

A source close to the club told us: “Siqueira had a big contract offer from Spurs, but he decided to join Atletico Madrid. If a player has his heart set on a club, money does not come into it.”

The 28-year-old is yet to make an appearances for the Brazilian national side, being behind the likes of Real Madrid’s Marcelo and Atletico’s Filipe Luis, who is now expected to move on following Siqueira’s arrival.
