QPR and West Ham battle for French World Cup star

Football Express News understands that QPR and West Ham United are in a battle to sign French midfielder Mathieu Valbuena.

The 29-year-old has spent the last few years with Ligue 1 side Marseille but announced his decision to leave the club and try a different league towards the end of the season.

A move to Russia was highly expected with Dynamo Moscow having agreed a transfer fee with the midfielder’s club, but the French international ruled out the move because he did not fancy living in the country.

Since then, Valbuena has been linked with a move to Italy or England and it is understood that QPR and West Ham United have both made contact with his current club.

Valbuena, who is rated at around £7m is demanding a contract worth £70k per week, a figure which QPR boss Harry Redknapp is keen to pay that amount of the attacking playmaker.
