Wolfsburg offer £22m for Chelsea outcast

Wolfsburg will this week bid £22million for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, according to fresh reports in the German media.

Bild claims the Belgium international does not feature in the plans of Blues manager Jose Mourinho and there is a growing belief in the corridors of power at the Bundesliga club that a deal can be thrashed out.

The summer acquisition of hitman Diego Costa from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and the return of legend Dider Drogba on a 12-month contract has once again pushed Lukaku down the pecking order.

He has been farmed out on loan for two successive seasons, when he impressed at West Bromwich Albion and Everton respectively.

Serie A heavyweights Juventus hold a long-term interest in the player but have so far only offered a temporary deal with a view to a permanent move.

It is thought that Chelsea would prefer an outright sale to a third loan departure.

If Lukaku does not end up in Turin it will represent another setback for Juve, who have already lost their latest attacking recruit, Alvaro Morata, to injury.

The Spaniard, who only joined from Real Madrid 10 days ago, has been ruled out for between five and six weeks with a knee problem he picked up in training.
