Arsenal’s hopes of signing Atletico Madrid youngster Javier Manquillo rest in the hands of Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The young full-back has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with Liverpool and Arsenal both interested, with the former having been heavily linked with a move.

Despite signing Newcastle United’s Mathieu Debuchy earlier this month, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has remained keen on the youngster and is reported in English press to be preparing a move.

But, negotiations between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are yet to begin due to Barcelona’s first refusal option on the young Spanish defender.

The Catalan club agreed a first refusal option for Manquillo when they sold striker David Villa to the Spanish champions last summer and any progression in Arsenal’s interest will now depend on Barcelona’s decision.

The 20-year-old made his debut for Atletico in 2012 but was unfortunate to miss the majority of last season through injury.

He has represented Spain at U16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 level.
