Injury despair sees Juve close on Lukaku and Eto’o

Juventus will reportedly intensify their pursuit of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku and move for their ex-hitman Samuel Eto’o after losing new signing Alvaro Morata to injury.

The Spaniard, who only joined from Real Madrid at the weekend, has been ruled out for around five weeks with a knee problem he picked up in training.

And according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turin giants are now even more determined to land Belgium international Lukaku, although they face stiff competition from Everton.

While Juve want to take him on loan with a view to a permanent move, the Toffees are thought to be ready to discuss an outright purchase.

The report also reveals that Morata’s absence, coupled with the club missing out to Roma in the race for Hellas Verona star Juan Iturbe, means a short-term deal for veteran free agent Eto’o is also on the table.

The 33-year-old, who left Stamford Bridge in the summer after one season in west London, is seemingly keen to return to Italy, where he spent two seasons with Inter Milan.

He is in line for a reunion with former Chelsea team-mate Lukaku, who scored 18 goals in 35 appearances during a loan spell at Everton last season, further improving his reputation in the European game.
