Two clubs set to spark Lukaku bidding war

Juventus and Wolfsburg will this week ramp up their efforts to land Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

Tutto Mercato Web claims Turin giants Juve remain keen on the targetman despite signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, and they are determined to add one more striker after missing out on long-term target Juan Iturbe.

The Hellas Verona man was widely-expected to join the Serie A champions this summer, but instead completed a move to rivals Roma at the end of last week.

Juve do, however, face fierce competition from ambitious Bundesliga side Wolfsburg who are thought to have a significant sum of money to spend during the summer transfer window.

The Belgium forward’s suitors are said to have been encouraged by the lack of conviction coming out of Stamford Bridge that he will play a part for the Blues in the 2014-15 campaign, especially after the acquisition of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

With club icon Didier Drogba also in line to rejoin the west London club this week, Lukaku could be heading for the exit door.

Lukaku scored 18 goals in 35 appearances during a loan spell at Everton last season, further improving his reputation in the European game.

He was part of the Belgium squad involved in this summer’s World Cup in Brazil although he lost his regular starting berth to Lille’s Divock Origi.
