Football Express News understands that Manchester United have bid £55M for Paris Saint Germain’s striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan striker has not been in-favour in France and is looking to jump ship to another competitive team after playing in a more wider position than normal under PSG boss Laurent Blanc.

And, it is understood that Louis van Gaal, who has been appointed as boss of Manchester United is looking to strengthen his side with the addition of the former Napoli man.

The Dutch coach is a long-term admirer of Cavani and believes he could be a key player next season as United seek to force their way back into title contention.

A deal for Southampton’s Luke Shaw is all but announced and Van Gaal is now looking at more advanced positions in the team.

Cavani did not have the best of times last season, scoring 16 goals and gaining two assists, but he has played a silent figure behind Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who netted 26 goals.

Although PSG only purchased Cavani last summer, it is understood that the offer from United could be negotiated.
