Benitez on brink of Premier League raid

Michu

Napoli are reportedly on the verge of securing the signature of Swansea City striker Michu.

Italian source Tutto Mercato Web claims the Spain international will join the Serie A outfit on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent move at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

Last term the 28-year-old was blighted by injuries but still managed to make 24 appearances despite being sidelined for two large chunks of the season.

His form suffered, however, and he managed a return of only six goals.

It came in stark contrast to the previous year, when he announced himself in English football with a superb tally of 22 goals in all competitions under then-boss Michael Laudrup, who was sacked by the Welsh club.

At Napoli he will play under fellow countryman Rafael Benitez, previously of Liverpool and Chelsea.

The latest report claims Michu’s arrival will spell the end of forward Goran Pandev’s career at the club.

Benitez guided the Naples side to the Italian Cup last term and also secured qualification for the Champions League courtesy of a third-place finish in the Serie A table.

He has since targeted a host of Premier League players, including Liverpool duo Pepe Reina and Lucas Leiva and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sando.
