Stoke City sign Fulham midfielder Sidwell

Stoke City have completed the free transfer of Steve Sidwell after he was released by Championship side Fulham.

The 31-year-old had a good season for Fulham last term and finished the campaign as the club’s top scorer but he was helpless in stopping them from being relegated from the Premier League and left the club when the season came to a close.

The London-born midfielder has had a much travelled career, playing for the likes of Reading, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham and now Stoke City.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes signed Sidwell during his time in charge of Fulham, back in 2011, and the English midfielder made 115 appearances for the Craven Cottage outfit.

Hughes makes Sidwell his second summer signing after capturing Phil Bardsley from Sunderland earlier in the week and it is understood that negotiations are underway to sign former Manchester United striker Mame Diouf.
