Manchester United’s interest in Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has forced Manchester City into making a summer move for the Spanish defender.

Ramos is currently playing hard ball with current club Real Madrid over a new and improved contract after citing a negativity towards new boss Rafael Benitez.

The World Cup winning centre-back has been a pinnacle figure at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent seasons, playing well under boss Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.

Benitez’s arrival at Madrid has caused some doubts with Ramos leading a long list of players to question president Florentino Perez’s plans.

His unhappiness is said to be interesting a number of clubs with Man United boss Louis van Gaal heavily linked to a move.

United are keen to improve their defensive options for next season but their interest has now forced bitter rivals Man City to show interest in the former Sevilla man.

Ramos is seemingly keen to try his hand at English football and would welcome a move to City, where he could link up with Spanish team-mates David Silva and Jesus Navas.
