According to Sky Sources, Manchester United are interested in the signing of Everton right back Seamus Coleman.

Although they are yet to make a bid, sources reveal that Louis van Gaal is keen to sign the Republic of Ireland defender. Coleman has sparked interest following an excellent few years as an Everton regular as well as impressing in recent international games.

Coleman has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent players, proving to be both solid at the back and prolific going forward.

Coleman would be ideal to fill the spot of United’s right back, much of last season it was Antonio Valencia’s role as a direct result of yet more injury problems and failure to impress for Rafael. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling also had spells there for the reds, although they are both more suited to centre back roles.

A number of players have been linked to the role including Barcelona’s Dani Alves but the Spanish defender has since renewed his contract at the Camp Nou meaning a new right back is a top priority for United.

Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne also failed to make the move to United after sparking interest, but his deal with Liverpool is now in the final stages of a £12.5million transfer.

A £15 million price tag is expected to sway Coleman from Merseyside but it still remains uncertain whether the role will be filled.
