Liverpool and Manchester City battle for Barcelona star

Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly readying bids for the forgotten Barcelona star, Pedro, who has become disillusioned at the Nou Camp.

Pedro has fallen out of favour at the Catalan club, finding himself spending most of last season on the bench as Neymar, Messi and Suarez seemingly scored for fun.

Despite only signing a new deal in June, both Pedro and the club would be open to a move away from Barcelona this summer for around £18million.

There will be no shortage of interest in the Spanish international who has over 50 caps for his country as well as an incredible goalscoring record at Barcelona since his move there in 2008.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in the player, according to TalkSport. Raheem Sterling’s seemingly inevitable exit from Anfield this summer, and his likely move to Manchester City, makes Pedro very much Manchester City’s ‘plan b’, if they fail to bring Sterling to the Ethiad this summer.

However, this move would leave a void at Liverpool and they seem to be winning the race to sign the Spaniard. With Sterling’s exit Rodger’s side would lack pace and lose a real goalscoring threat – Pedro would re-inject both of these things into a Liverpool team.

There is also a more personal motive for Rodgers this summer after he failed to sign Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last summer. The Chilean found himself in a very similar position to Pedro, but Rodgers watched his number one transfer target make the move to Arsenal and have an absolutely incredible first season in North London.

He won’t want to see something similar happen this summer, with a bid of £18million touted as the figure needed to lure Pedro from the Nou Camp.
