Newcastle United have completed the signing of Jack Colback from rivals Sunderland.

Colback, 24, has put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal with Newcastle after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Sunderland, seeing his contract expire.

The midfielder joined Sunderland at the tender age of eight and moved up through the ranks, making his professional debut in 2008, which has since been followed by 135 appearances for the Black Cats.

He becomes the first player since Lionel Perez in 1998 to leave Sunderland for Newcastle, joining Titus Bramble, Paul Bracewell and Lee Clark, who have represented both clubs.

Colback, who can operate at full-back or in midfield, arrived on a free transfer, with Newcastle paying no compensation to Sunderland due to him being over the age of 24.
