Manchester City’s hopes of signing Kevin De Bruyne have been boosted as his contract negotiations with Wolfsburg have been put on hold, report Daily Telegraph.

The former Chelsea midfielder has become one of the most wanted players in European football after a sublime season with the Bundesliga giants.

De Bruyne, who left Chelsea last summer after making just nine appearances for the Stamford Bridge side – has touched on interest linking him with a summer move in recent weeks, amongst which has been serious interest from Manchester City.

The Belgian international told Sport Bild: “I have always said that I am very happy here.

“But I am not saying that I am 100 per cent going to stay here.

“Surely it is possible that something might come up in the next few weeks while I am onholiday.

“However, no one can predict that at the moment.”

Discussions over a new deal with the Bundesliga side have now been put on hold, leaving the chances of a summer move seem highly unlikely but City officials still remain keen on luring him back to the Premier League.
