Aston Villa are edging closer and closer to a summer deal for Micah Richards, Football Express News understands.

Richards had been at Manchester City since 2005 and enjoyed a loan spell at Fiorentina last season, before being released this summer.

Sunderland were said to have made a move last week, whilst Bournemouth and Watford, newly promoted to the Premier League, were also said to be in the running to sign the former England international.

Richards is keen to move back to England and show his worth to national boss Roy Hodgson and it is now understood that he is set for a move to FA Cup runners-up Aston Villa.

Villa have offered the 26-year-old an opportunity to revive his career and are willing to offer a deal close to his wage demands.
