Manchester United have seen a £110 million bid for Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane rejected by Real Madrid, according to Cuatro.

United boss Louis van Gaal has plenty of transfer targets this summer as he looks to expand on a relatively good season at Old Trafford.

Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane have both seen their futures heavily debated at Real Madrid in recent months with the latter coming in for criticism over his ‘selfish’ play and the latter – failing to receive ample playing time.

Both have been linked with a move to the Premier League, whilst Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain are also said to have been monitoring their situation.

However, what seems certain is that Madrid will not be willing to allow either to leave for a cheap fee after they rejected a bid worth £110m from Man United late on Tuesday evening.

Van Gaal submitted the offer for both Bale and Varane, who he believes will bolster his defensive and attacking options – ready for a title challenge next season.

Madrid are set to appoint former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez this week, who is said to be keen on keeping the young duo.
