Ilkay Gundogan to join Manchester United

Ilkay Gundogan has already agreed personal terms with United, but will wait until after his final Borussia Dortmund game to announce the transfer officially.

Louis van Gaal has already announced the signing of wonderkid Memphis Depay from £25m, and in a change to their recent transfer policy, is set to announce another before the transfer window has officially opened.

Dortmund’s chief executive has already confirmed that the midfielder will not be at the club next season. Earlier this year he said:

“Gundogan will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, that is a fact. I am very confident we will see various clubs coming in for him.

“It has not been our intention to see him leaving. It was his ambition to move clubs (this summer). Therefore we agreed. We will sell him.”

The fee agreed between clubs is reported to be around £20m excluding any further add-ons, and that would mean that United’s total bill this summer will already be £55m.

There have been reports that several player will be going in the opposite direction, with van Gaal neither confirming nor denying that striker Robin van Persie has a future at the club, and there has been plenty of speculation linking Angel Di Maria with a move away from Old Trafford.

Both these players could finance the two transfers, but one would have thought that the club will be pressing for more transfers in the coming months.
