Liverpool are keen to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke and will splash out £30m on the Belgium international, according to Sunday Times.

The Belgian striker has struggled this season in general but has returned following a number of injury problems to play a big part in Villa’s FA Cup run which will end against Arsenal at Wembley later this month.

Manchester United have been linked in recent weeks but it is understood that Chelsea and Liverpool have been frequent visitors to Villa games in recent weeks.

Villa will be hoping to keep hold of the 24-year-old, and have attempted to fend off interest by placing the huge price tag on the striker.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is known to be an admirer of the Belgium international but it remains to be seen if he chooses to pursue a deal at that price.

Leaving Liverpool as the favourites to make a summer move, with the Sunday Times claiming that a £30m bid has been agreed by club officials and will be submitted after the FA Cup final next week.
