The Barcelona captain played his last game for the club, after declaring that he is leaving at the end of the season.
Xavi has been at the Catalan cub for 24 years, in that time lifting 8 La Liga titles. The eighth coming yesterday in there 2-2 draw with Deportivo.
Xavi looked set to have the perfect send off, as Lionel messi of all people scoring in the 5th and later on in the 59th minute of the game, but Deportivo fought scoring 2 in the 67th and 76th minute to slightly dampen the mood around the Nou Camp.
Xavi go substituted in the 85th minute, which resulted in an incredible noise for the 35-year-old. Every corner of the stadium was clapping, recognizing the contribution he has made towards the club over the last 24 years has been outstanding.
The Barcelona player wore special shirts, to give Xavi a send off to remember. The shirts read “6racias Xavi” which stands for, Thank you Xavi.
For every football fan, it is a sad day. Seeing a boy grow through the ranks of the club he supported as a child and being loyal to the club for 24-years. He will be missed by the older and newer generation. But with Gerrard,Lampard and Xavi moving on. This is the end of an era for football, lets just hope the new era can bring the quality that these players have given to football as we know it now.
