Manchester United are reportedly interested in bringing unsettled Zenit defender Ezequiel Garay to Old Trafford, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish website Fichajes.net claim the Argentina centre-back is thought to be desperate to leave Russia, and a move to the Premier League is top on the 28-year-old’s priority list.

Louis van Gaal, who is said to be a long-term admirer of the Argentine defender, is reportedly being given a huge war chest in the summer, which could pave the way to a £18.5m bid to bring Garay to Old Trafford. The Argentina international has spent just one season at Zenit since arriving from Benfica in June 2014.

Manchester United, who have lost the last three Premier League games, will be looking to bolster their defence for a title challenge next season.

The Red Devils still have work to do to secure a Champions League place – as Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers has closed the gap to just four points with three games remaining.
