Arsenal and Manchester City are ready to take advantage of Manchester United’s failed move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Reports on Friday afternoon claimed that the German midfielder had agreed terms to a £21.5m deal to join the Premier League side, however, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watze admitted that although the club would consider a sale, talks of a completed deal to United were false.

“With Manchester United there is zero contact,” he told Sky Deutschland on Saturday.

And, his comments have seemingly allowed the likes of Arsenal and Man City to re-ignite their interest in the Germany international.

Gundogan missed a full year of football through a back injury before returning earlier this season and he has since re-found the form that made him one of the most impressive European midfielder’s.

Real Madrid and Juventus have also held interest in the past.
