Manchester United have been handed a huge boost to complete a £35m transfer of Mats Hummels as the defender reportedly rejected a move to Arsenal, according to Daily Star.

German star Mats Hummels has been a long-term target for United boss Louis van Gaal as he looks to bolster his defensive options in time for next season and the player is keen on a move according to reports.

With the exit of Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp, it has pushed Hummels closer to a Westfalenstadion departure this summer.

The defender had also attracted attention from Premier League rivals Arsenal, but it is reported that the 26-year-old has his mind set on Old Trafford and a deal should be completed in the summer.

Manchester United are currently third in the Barclays Premier League having accumulated 65 points, one point behind Arsenal in second.
