Chelsea eye shock move for Manchester United target

Chelsea are looking to beat Manchester United in the race to sign Mats Hummels with a summer deal, according to reports.

The Borussia Dortmund defender is set to leave the German side at the end of the season, with the Bundesliga club listening to offers for the in demand centre-back.

United looked to be favourites to secure his services, but now it is reported Chelsea are looking to beat the Red Devils to land his signature.

Chelsea will be able to comfortably pay his reported £37m asking price and believe that the Blues are a more desirable club to play for.

Hummels has also attracted attention from Arsenal, but Chelsea now look to be ahead of the Premier League trio.

Chelsea are currently top of the Barclays Premier League having accumulated 70 points, seven points ahead of Arsenal in second.
