Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Montella has claimed that he is surprised by the impact of Mohamed Salah, who has scored six goals in his first seven games.

Salah, who joined the club on loan from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, scored a superb brace against Juventus on Thursday evening in the Coppa Italian semi-final first leg and ended the Turin side’s 47-game unbeaten run.

Having struggled at Stamford Bridge to make an impact, Salah is now being heralded for his impact in Italian football.

“Salah is in a state of grace and we hope he can continue. He has settled in very well. We knew that he was strong, but honestly his immediate impact has gone beyond expectations,” the Viola boss told Rai.

“The team has been consistent since November to December. We have a squad with many alternatives and the January transfer window gave me some other options to choose from.

“The team is confident and aware of what it can do, but also is staying humble. We have reached a certain level of maturity and after some time together, the players understand me and I understand them.”
