Press Room: Van Gaal finally praises Man United keeper De Gea

Louis van Gaal has heaped praise on keeper David de Gea after another superb performance in Manchester United’s win over Newcastle United.

The Dutch boss has reserved his comments this season on the Spanish stopper as contract negotiations continue to roll on, however, following his side’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday evening; the former Barcelona boss could not hold back his praise any more.

Van Gaal also took time to praise Wayne Rooney, who was reverted back to his striker role after calls from fans and pundits close to the Old Trafford outfit.

“I have to say that Wayne, how he makes that goal, is unbelievable, because it was a lost ball. But his fighting spirit is unbelievable,” van Gaal told MUTV.

“David De Gea, this year, is unbelievable. In my career I have a lot of good goalkeepers, for example Edwin van der Sar was one of my goalkeepers and [Victor] Valdes also with Barcelona, but De Gea is having a great season.

“Newcastle is a difficult ground to win at so I am very pleased. They have won here against the top clubs so I am very happy.”
