Sunderland boss Poyet: Adam Johnson arrest was my toughest day

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has revealed that he has endured his toughest day in management after the arrest of Adam Johnson.

The England international was arrested and then suspended by his club for allegedly sleeping with an under-age girl, although investigations are continuing.

Johnson continues to be helping Durham police with there enquiries and has been bailed for the time being, due to return in two weeks for more questioning.

Poyet was asked about the situation following his side’s 1-1 draw against Hull City last night and told reporters: “The only thing I can tell you is that it was a very difficult day [on Monday]. Very difficult day. I’ve never had one like that, very difficult.”

Sunderland find themselves sitting four points above the Premier League drop zone after Tuesday night’s draw.
