Press Room: Sherwood delighted, Pulis refuses to blame Foster

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has refused to blame keeper Ben Foster for his last minute mistake against Aston Villa.

The England international conceded a last minute penalty to Villa in Tuesday night’s Midlands derby, which Christian Benteke converted for the win.

However, despite his error, Pulis has refused to put blame on the former Manchester United stopper.

He told BBC Sport: “Obviously Ben Foster will be disappointed with what happened at the end. It’s very, very hard to take but Ben has been brilliant for us this season so I won’t be criticising him.

“We are disappointed, we have dug in second-half and got the goal. Maybe we would have liked to have changed one or two things but we have got a few injuries so we have what we have.

Meanwhile, Villa boss Tim Sherwood believes the victory could be the turning point his side need to avoid relegation.

“I think so [it’s a turning point]. We have conceded late against Stoke and it is a real body blow, but to score one late is an excellent feeling and I thought it was thoroughly deserved,” said Sherwood, according to BBC Sport.

“We are improving every game and we are still alive and kicking. It’s a massive football club and it is at the wrong end of the table.

“A Tony Pulis side is never dead. It was always likely to be a set piece. We kept at it and someone was looking down on us today.

“I’ll try anything, we are at that stage. We hadn’t won in 12 Premier League games and had to buck that trend. I think we deserved the three points and onwards and upwards.”
