Wenger: Arsenal can finish second this season

Arsene Wenger has set his sights on a second-placed finish in the Premier League this season as Arsenal close in on Manchester City.

The Gunners moved up to third place in the league after beating Everton 2-0 on Saturday and sit just four points off Manuel Pellegrini’s side after they lost to Champions League chasing Liverpool.

With the most important stage of the season approaching, Wenger has revealed that he is still hopeful of a second place finish, though he admits his side are not close to winning the title.

“Of course it is possible,” said Wenger to reporters in his pre-match press conference ahead of the midweek clash with Queens Park Rangers.

“If you ask a team four points behind us if they could catch us and they would say certainly, yes.”

He continued: “It’s very tight. Man City are four points ahead and there are plenty of people chasing us in the top four. It’s down to consistency.

“We have seen things change quickly in the last two or three months of the season. We have to focus on finishing as well as we can.”
