West Bromwich Albion midfielder Craig Gardner has admitted he will hold no remorse for his former club Aston Villa as the relegation battle continues in the Premier League.

The Baggies will face Villa on Wednesday evening as Tim Sherwood’s side are desperately struggling to move out of the relegation zone, having not won a single game under their new boss.

Gardner’s West Brom side sit 13th in the league, eight points above their Midlands rivals, and he has spoken about the upcoming fixture.

“I know what it is like myself, going down with Birmingham City,” ESPN quotes Gardner as saying. “I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. If you say ‘who would rather go down, them or us?’, obviously I’m going to choose them.

“They are a good side with a good manager and there are eight or nine teams in the relegation fight so everyone just needs to win their games, but we want to keep our run going.”

West Brom are unbeaten in their last four league games.
