Red hot Lukaku sends Everton through to Europa League last-16

Everton progressed to the next stage of the Europa League thanks to a 3-1 win over Young Boys, winning 7-2 on aggregate.

After last week’s 4-1 win in Switzerland, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez approached the second leg on Thursday night in confident mood, but he kept a relatively strong side on the pitch for the most part.

Young Boys needed to score four goals at Goodison Park to quality and they started well when Sekou Sanogo struck after 13 minutes.

However, his goal woke a quiet Everton crowd, who played their part in helping the Premier League side turn the second leg round and produce a solid display.

Romelu Lukaku, who scored a hat-trick last week, continued his scoring form by netting from the penalty spot and he doubled his tally and his side’s tally just five minutes later.

The tie was put even further out of doubt when Belgian winger Kevin Miralles struck just before half time.
