Fiorentina progressed to the last-16 of the Europa League after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at the Stadio Armenio Franchi this evening.

The tie was all square heading into the second leg although the Italian side held the advantage with an away goal after the first leg ended 1-1 at White Hart Lane.

The homes side started well with Milan Badelj creating space for himself to muster up a shot, but he found Hugo Lloris in good form.

Spurs reacted well and nearly went ahead through Erik Lamela, but the Argentine was denied by another in-form keeper in the shape of Brazilian Neto.

The visitors should have grabbed the lead when Roberto Soldado and Nacer Chadli raced towards goal , but the Spaniard’s pass to the winger was gathered up by a very determined Neto.

And, that miss proved to be the turning point as German striker Mario Gomez made the most of a one-on-one with Lloris, tapping past the Spurs keeper.

Tottenham’s hopes of reaching the next stage were then crushed by Salah, on loan from Chelsea, who struck an effort into the top corner with 19 minutes remaining.
