Press Room: Hughes claims Stoke deserved defeat

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has acknowledged that Blackburn Rovers fully deserved their 4-1 FA Cup victory on Saturday afternoon.

Peter Crouch gave the Premier League side a 1-0 lead early on but the visitors saw their lead slip after Joshua King scored a hat-trick to inspire the Championship side a relatively easy win.

The 51-year-old former Manchester City boss told BBC Sport that Blackburn deserved the win and that his side failed to deal with their threat up front.

“We were well beaten today, credit to Blackburn, they put the ball in good areas and used the threats they had up front.

“We didn’t deal with it all afternoon, we got our noses in front without really dictating Blackburn. We allowed them to get back into the game. Blackburn deserved to go through.

“For the red card, there was a little bit of contact, I have seen them given, I have seen then not given. If you don’t do the fundamentals, you are liable to get punished. Absolutely no complaint, we didn’t deserve anything today.”
