Press Room: Big Sam blames tiredness for FA Cup defeat

Tiredness was to blame as Sam Allardyce reacted to his side’s 4-0 FA Cup thrashing at the hands of West Bromwich Albion.

The Hammers could do little to stop Tony Pulis’s side on Saturday as Brown Ideye (2), Saido Berahino and James Morrison scored the goals to end West Ham’s FA Cup run.

Boss Allardyce has discussed his side’s defeat and blamed fatigue as a big part of the result. Meanwhile his opposite number Pulis was delighted with his side and their efforts at the Hawthorns.

“It was a huge disappointment, but I can see why,” he told the club’s official website. “We didn’t really get to our level because we didn’t have the energy to get to that level, so it’s the old saying that this was a game too far for us.

“The players have had to cope a lot of games in a short space of time but unfortunately they couldn’t cope it against a West Brom side who played very, very well.

“If we’d have been on our top form then I think we’d have given them a much better game but we couldn’t because we couldn’t get our energy levels right because of what we’ve had to do over the last few days, it has unfortunately taken its toll.”

Pulis told BT Sport: “It was a good performance and I’m very pleased but there is still a long way to go, we need that bit of luck with the next draw.

“Things went our way and I’m really pleased for the players and, scoring four goals, all the punters who came to watch. Ideye was fantastic. He is scoring goals and that takes the weight off your shoulders and he looks a good player.”
